City Lit is one of London’s leading adult education providers, offering a wide range of part-time and short courses to thousands of learners each year. PB Signs has partnered with City Lit for over seven years, delivering bespoke education signage in London across their busy central campus. As a long-standing signage partner, we’ve supported City Lit with external signage solutions, helping to strengthen brand visibility and improve wayfinding for students, staff, and visitors.
Working in an active educational environment requires careful planning, flexibility, and an understanding of how signage performs in real-world conditions, particularly in city-centre locations.
City Lit’s London location presents unique challenges for external signage. Several areas around the campus are exposed to strong wind conditions, effectively acting as wind tunnels. This meant all external banners and graphics needed to be designed, reinforced, and installed with durability and safety as a priority.
In addition, many installations needed to be completed out of hours to avoid disruption to teaching and events. With residential properties nearby, it was also essential that all works were carried out considerately, keeping noise to a minimum and adhering to agreed time restrictions.
Pre-planning played a crucial role in every stage of this project. Before installation, we assessed weather conditions and reinforced PVC banners accordingly to ensure they could withstand the windy conditions long-term. Fixing methods and materials such as double sided block-out heavy duty (650gsm) PVC reinforced with pole pockets top and bottom and wind slits throughout, selected specifically for external education signage in urban settings, helping to reduce maintenance and extend lifespan.
Installation schedules were carefully coordinated with the City Lit team, allowing us to work efficiently while remaining respectful of neighbours and campus users. Our experienced installers completed works safely, discreetly, and within permit timeframes.
Over the course of the partnership, PB Signs has supplied and installed a variety of signage solutions for City Lit, including PVC banners, fabric banners, and self-adhesive vinyl graphics. All signage was produced to align with City Lit’s visual identity while meeting the practical demands of a busy London education provider.
