Worcester City Council

Creating a vibrant visual journey through The Arches with durable public space graphics, artist collaboration and heritage-sensitive installation.

THE CLIENT

Worcester City Council is a local authority responsible for delivering essential public services to more than 95,000 residents across the city.

Working closely with the local community, it focuses on creating a prosperous city, improving the quality of life for residents and making Worcester a more welcoming place for everyone who lives, works and visits there.

Providing accessible, efficient, best-value services sits at the heart of everything the council does. That commitment extends to the public spaces and infrastructure it invests in on behalf of its residents.

THE PROJECT

We were appointed to support The Arches, a major regeneration project transforming the pedestrian and cycling route between Foregate Street railway station and the city’s riverside.

Working alongside Severn Arts and several mural artists across the city, the project involved the creation of large-scale graphics and printed boards to bring the walkway to life visually.

Coordinating with multiple stakeholders across an active public space added complexity to the project, and its timing and presentation needed to meet the expectations of a high-profile city centre initiative.

The Arches themselves presented an additional challenge. The Victorian viaduct, built in 1860, is a listed historic structure, which meant any fixings to the brickwork required close collaboration with Network Rail.

OUR SOLUTION

We designed, produced and installed a range of signage and large-format graphics throughout the walkway, working collaboratively with Severn Arts, local artists and the council to bring the creative vision to life.

We applied anti-graffiti film where needed to protect the artwork and extend its lifespan.

Working on listed buildings always comes with specific considerations, from how signage is attached to the masonry through to ensuring that any work carried out is sympathetic to the local heritage and environment. We managed this process carefully, coordinating with Network Rail to make sure everything was done correctly.

Throughout the project, we maintained clear communication with all parties involved, delivering within public sector timelines and budget. The result is a vibrant, welcoming gateway into the city that residents and visitors can enjoy every day.
